TROYBOI

Following the release of his explosive new track, “Dhunga”, we link up with British producer, TroyBoi.

Combining elements of future bass, trap, house, hip hop and dubstep into a diverse catalogue of hard-hitting productions, TroyBoi has garnered an enviable reputation as a prolific electronic artist. Renowned for his uniquely high-energy and standout live performances, TroyBoi has forged an eclectic discography that is as formidable as it is diverse. Now, the British DJ and record producer continues to push creative boundaries with his latest track, “Dhunga”.

Serving up two and a half minutes of warped bass, groove-inducing rhythms and slick vocals, TroyBoi instantly captivates listeners with his signature sound palette and energised flair. “Dhunga” also sees TroyBoi link up with US vocalist, Toxic Rob, who delivers his own inspired brand of hip hop vocals. Together the duo combines to deliver throbbing basslines, syncopated rhythms, and unforgettable lyricism.

Listen to the track…

Reflecting on the single, TroyBoi explains, “This is the first single from my upcoming project ‘4 ON DA FLOOR’ which explores my admiration for house music, but with my twist. Toxic Rob’s cheeky charismatic vocals on ‘Dhunga’ really complement the percussion driven production. It’s a fun record intended to make people get down on the dance floor, especially when that dirty bass hits”.

We caught up with Troy to delve into his creative process when working with vocalists and his highly anticipated EP, “4 ON DA FLOOR”.

Hey Troy! How’s it going?

I’m very well thanks. Had an amazing time playing on the DoLab stage at Coachella this past weekend, so still buzzing from that.

You’ve just dropped your latest single, “Dhunga” featuring Toxic Rob. How does your creative process change when working with a collaborator?

When working with a collaborator, especially vocalists, I aim to bring out the best in them. I Iike to make sure to that my production isn’t too overwhelming with layers. There needs to be room for the vocals to shine and not get too lost in the music. With ‘Dhunga’, I made a percussion driven production to really complement and highlight Toxic Rob’s flow and charisma.

You’re gearing up to release your newest EP, “4 ON DA FLOOR”. Is there anything you can share with us about the project?

It’s a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Growing up in London I’ve been exposed and listened to multiple types of house music. When I first got into music production some of my earliest tracks I made were in the genre of house, garage and grime. “4 ON DA FLOOR” is my homage to the various types of house music with my signature style on the production.

Tell us your story. How did you first get into the scene?

I started putting out music on Soundcloud in 2012. My first track got a lot of attention and I constantly would put out a song once a week or once every two weeks. The buzz continued to get bigger and after about 1 / 2 years worth of music releases I had a lot of people asking me when I would start performing. This led me to start DJing my own shows and playing my original material. I’m humbled to be where I am at now looking back at these moments. I still have so much more I wish to accomplish and I’m excited to continue my journey.

You’re from Great Britain but are now based in Miami. How do the electronic scenes differ between both regions?

In Miami the scene is booming. There are some cool venues that really push electronic music. UK is pretty much the same. The only difference I feel would be that in Miami there is a lot more Latin house music being played and the sunshine is a huge plus.

What do you have coming up for the rest of the year in terms of collabs and live performances?

I’ll be playing at some amazing festivals this summer – EDC Vegas, Hard Summer, Hangout, Project Glow and Beyond Wonderland just to name a few. I have some very special shows coming up which I can’t announce yet, but you will find out soon enough! Music collabs, I have a some surprises. I’m very excited to reveal them all throughout this year.
